Humberto A. Liriano, M.D.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Liriano is an Assistant Professor of Pediatric Critical Care and Emergency Medicine at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine, where he contributes to the training of the next generation of physicians. His research interests include pediatric asthma management, critical care sedation, and novel therapies for severe neurological and infectious conditions. Recognized nationally for his contributions, he has earned awards such as the American Academy of Pediatrics Resident Scholarship and the Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital Resident of the Year.
A fluent Spanish speaker with conversational proficiency in French and Japanese, Dr. Liriano brings a global and inclusive perspective to medicine. His diverse academic background includes a Doctor of Medicine from St. Christopher’s College of Medicine, a Master of Public Health from the University of Southern California, and a Master of Arts in Economics from Fordham University. Combining clinical leadership with public health expertise, Dr. Liriano remains committed to advancing pediatric emergency care, strengthening healthcare systems, and championing health equity. Dr. Liriano has been a valued member of ARHI’s distinguished team of investigators since 2024.

Luis J. Barata, M.D.
Over the past two decades, Luis has cared for patients across many settings, from primary care clinics and home health to hospice and specialty medicine. He has held leadership roles such as Director of Nursing, worked in major health systems like Lee Memorial, and now serves patients in Southwest Florida through Riverside Family & Lifestyle Medicine, Allied Medical of SW Florida, and other practices. His experience extends internationally as well, having served as a physician and medical director in family medicine and dialysis centers in Chile and Cuba.
In addition to his clinical work, Luis is actively involved in advancing medicine through research. As a Sub-Investigator with Advanced Research for Health Improvement, he contributes to clinical trials in areas such as asthma, COPD, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s, vaccines and infectious diseases. He is board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine, emphasizing prevention and wellness alongside treatment. Fluent in both English and Spanish, and a proud member of organizations including the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, Luis remains committed to providing whole-person care while helping bring new therapies to the patients who need them most. Dr. Barata has been a valued member of ARHI’s distinguished team of investigators since 2019.

Shahzaib Mirza, M.D.
Prior to establishing Starz Pediatrics, Dr. Mirza served as a Staff Pediatrician at the Family Health Centers of Southwest Florida, where he provided comprehensive care, from newborn support to adolescent wellness, while mentoring medical students and residents. His pediatric residency at Florida Hospital South (Walt Disney Pavilion) in Orlando included specialized externships in emergency medicine, orthopedic surgery, and pediatric general surgery, both in the U.S. and internationally. Fluent in English, Spanish, Urdu, and Punjabi, Dr. Mirza is an active member of professional organizations including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Florida Medical Association. His interests extend to emergency management, medical flight transport, fitness, and multicultural engagement, reflecting his holistic approach to healthcare and community service.
